Overview
We go out to local neighbourhoods and performance venues to reclaim wood and repurpose it into community furniture. The aim was to bring digital fabrication technology to the residents — together we created a series of prototype chairs.
Resident involvement was made possible by digital fabrication methods including CNC cutting technology and Design for Assembly (DfMA). We also designed a heat-shrink plastic wood joint, using the plasticity of plastic bottles to enhance participation in the production process.
The workshop emphasises community-led recycling, human-centred co-creation, and collective creativity — enhancing the ability of an ageing neighbourhood to recycle its own waste wood.
